BARTOW-PELL MANSION MUSEUM’S POPULAR CENTENNIAL PLANT SALE RETURNS
Saturday, May 21, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Bronx, NY, May 12, 2016— Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum (BPMM) will host its third annual Centennial Plant Sale on Saturday, May 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, May 22. The sale, which will take place on the carriage house driveway, will include over 100 varieties of annuals, perennials, and herbs inspired by the recently restored formal garden which celebrates its centennial this year. In 2015 the museum celebrated the centennial opening of the mansion as the headquarters of the International Garden Club (now the Bartow-Pell Conservancy), and in 2014 it celebrated 100 years since the incorporation of the International Garden Club. The mansion has been undergoing an exterior restoration for the past two years, overseen by the New York City Parks Department.
“Based on the overwhelmingly positive response to our plant sale in recent years we decided to keep the tradition going this year,” said Alice Dean, Bartow-Pell Board Member and Chair of the Garden Committee. “I can’t think of a better place than the grounds of Bartow-Pell—with spring in full bloom—to have a Centennial Plant Sale.”
A number of interactive activities will also take place throughout the day at the museum. From 10:00 a.m. to noon, Children’s Garden Manager Lauren Gill will lead an Edible-Gardening Workshop in the Children’s Garden where she will demonstrate sustainable methods to create an edible mini garden for your backyard, deck, or window box. Various potting demonstrations and a book signing will also take place throughout the day.

ABOUT THE BARTOW-PELL MANSION MUSEUM
A New York City Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum (BPMM) is owned by the City of New York Department of Parks & Recreation and is a member of the Historic House Trust of New York City. It is operated by the private, non-profit Bartow-Pell Conservancy. The Bartow-Pell Conservancy, originally known as the International Garden Club, was formed in 1914 by a group passionate about horticulture. That year, New York City gave them permission to use the Bartow family mansion on Pelham Bay in the Bronx, as their headquarters in exchange for restoring it, creating public gardens and programs, and preserving it for generations to come. The International Garden Club officially changed its name to the Bartow-Pell Conservancy in 2008 as well its membership model to that of a typical cultural organization. BPMM is located at 895 Shore Road, Pelham Bay Park, Bronx, New York. The mansion and carriage house are open to the public for guided tours on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The gardens and grounds are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to dusk.
