It is time to step away from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and take an honest look at the great people of The Bronx. There are numbers of Bronxites who have done and are doing positive things to improve our borough and even change the course of the future by changing history. We can read about many of them on the pages of history books and others we hear and read about in the news. Then, there are those who may not make it to the newspaper pages but are working to make The Bronx a better place; not for recognition or titles but because they love their community. We can surely identify many important people from The Bronx.
The Bronx has been the home of remarkable people past and present. We will look back into our borough’s history from those names we recognize such as first president George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, and the famous actor Tony Curtis among many others. Then there are some of those that are more hidden within Bronx history such as Mathias Lopez who was issued the first newspaper in The Bronx, The Westchester Patriot (1) and Rosalyn Sussman Yalow medical physicist, nobel prize winner and Walton High School graduate (2). But notable Bronxites are not just in Bronx history but also in the present.
Bronx-PR will look for inspiring stories of successful Bronxites in order to highlight those unsung heroes we may unknowingly pass by on our way to work everyday. The goal of these postings will be to provide encouragement and increase pride in our people, our community and our borough. Stay tuned to Notable Bronxites and enjoy learning about fellow Bronxites!
