While Make a Difference Day is not until October 26, The Bronx will be making a difference by Making Strides on Sunday, October 20th at Orchard Beach.
The past couple of years I have been participating in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk that takes place every October at Orchard Beach. This year it will take place Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 8am-1pm. Last time I checked the Making Strides website, The Bronx had 505 teams and 2,265 participants registered, that is a lot of Bronxites coming together for a good cause.
Personally I am making strides for a beloved babysitter, neighbor and friend who lost her battle against breast cancer a few years ago. This walk is not only to raise money to continue the fight against breast cancer but also to celebrate those who have survived their in the battle against it as well as to bring awareness in order to reduce our risk of breast cancer.
I hope you add to the number of Bronxites making a difference this Sunday, whether by making any size donation, walking with us at Orchard Beach, wearing pink for the day or by sharing your story in a comment below.
